NDO — On September 18, in Ninh Binh, the Institute of Human Geography under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences held a workshop titled “Impacts of Development Projects on the Environment and Natural Landscapes in Vietnam.”

Opening remarks delivered by Dr. Nguyen Song Tung, President of the Institute of Human Geography.

This workshop is part of a broader communication and awareness-raising program on the protection of natural heritage environments for staff of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS). The initiative aims to reaffirm VASS’s role and responsibility in environmental protection and contribute to the realization of the country’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Participants listened to and discussed three presentations:

  • “Environmental and Landscape Protection at the Trang An Landscape Complex – a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site,” presented by Mr. Bui Quang Ninh, Deputy Director of the Trang An Landscape Complex Management Board, Ninh Binh Department of Tourism;

  • “Preserving and Promoting the Cultural Heritage of the Trang An Landscape Complex in Association with Sustainable Tourism Development,” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Song Ha, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences;

  • “Protecting Natural Heritage Environments in Island Regions: Lessons from Phu Quoc (Vietnam) and Taiwan,” delivered by Ms. Bui Thi Thuy Nga, Master’s Degree Researcher, Institute of World Economics and Politics.

The discussions further clarified scientific and practical foundations for addressing the urgent need to protect natural heritage sites and minimize the negative impacts of development projects on heritage environments and landscapes.
