The approval of the Son La Provincial Master Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, reflects the strong attention and support of the Party leadership, the State, the Government, the Prime Minister, the Government Office, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, as well as central ministries and agencies toward the province. This endorsement provides a significant driving force for Son La to successfully implement its planning goals, advancing its vision of becoming a green, fast-growing, and sustainable province—an emerging growth pole, a key engine of regional economic development, and a center for agricultural processing in the region.

At the end of January 2024, Son La Province officially announced its Provincial Master Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 1676/QD-TTg dated December 25, 2023. This milestone event underscores the province’s ambitions and long-term vision, identifying key development drivers that will enable Son La to fully leverage its potential and strengths, pursue multi-sector and multi-field growth, and advance toward green, rapid, and sustainable development.

In recent years, Son La has consistently regarded the planning process as a top priority—forming the highest-level legal framework and serving as a crucial tool for shaping socio-economic spatial development, allocating resources effectively, and guiding long-term strategic decisions.

Immediately after the Planning Law came into effect, the Provincial Party Committee, the People’s Council, and the People’s Committee of Son La moved swiftly to implement it, engaging the entire political system in the planning effort.

The province has also issued a decision approving an investment attraction portfolio for 2021–2025, consisting of 367 projects across various sectors.

Son La aims to become one of the more developed provinces in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region, a central hub of the Northwest subregion, and a major tourism destination along the Vietnam–Laos border and the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region. The province also strives to become a regional center for agricultural processing. These goals represent the consistent and overarching vision that Son La is determined to pursue throughout the 2021–2030 planning period, with a long-term vision to 2050.
