Ho Chi Minh City is committed to promoting economic, cultural and educational partnerships with Indonesia, especially in the fields of technology, green development and digital transformation.

Ho Chi Minh City plays an important role in the good relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia, emphasized Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee at the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia’s National Day held by the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of September 19.
Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai congratulated Indonesia on its achievements in recent years; stating that the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia is growing stronger, deeper and more effective in terms of politics, diplomacy, defense, security, economy, culture, education and people-to-people exchange.
Trade is a bright spot in the economic relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia, maintaining continuous growth and reaching nearly 14 billion USD in 2023, a significant increase compared to previous years, with the target of reaching 18 billion USD in 2028.
In the context of good relations between the two countries, the trade ratio between Ho Chi Minh City and Indonesia accounts for about 30% of the total trade turnover between the two countries by 2023.
Indonesia is among the top 20 largest foreign investors in Ho Chi Minh City as recent years have seen an increase in Indonesian investment in various sectors, from manufacturing to retail, food processing and real estate.
Besides, cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Indonesia in the fields of cultural and educational exchange is also increasingly deepening.
Expressing confidence in the potential for cooperation between the two countries, the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee emphasized that, along with the efforts of the two Governments, Ho Chi Minh City is committed to promoting economic, cultural and educational partnerships with Indonesia, especially in the fields of technology, green development and digital transformation, towards a common vision of a friendly, prosperous and sustainable Southeast Asia.

At the ceremony, Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan, Consul General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that over the past nearly seven decades, Indonesia and Vietnam have shared a journey of courage, mutual respect and common aspiration towards prosperity.
The two countries’ founding leaders, President Soekarno and President Ho Chi Minh, demonstrated their vision and inspirational leadership, and today, the Strategic Partnership between Indonesia and Vietnam has achieved remarkable achievements with bilateral trade reaching impressive levels; economic cooperation growing strongly with total Indonesia-Vietnam trade turnover reaching 13.8 billion USD by 2023.
Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan emphasized that as important members of ASEAN, Indonesia and Vietnam greatly contribute to the dynamism and growth of the region; looking to the future, the potential for partnership between the two countries is enormous.
In 2025, Indonesia and Vietnam celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, looking forward to continued cooperation for a bright future.
