India Generates Electricity from Ocean Waves 🌊

Tác giả bizdi

India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, recently announced that the country will implement an innovative clean-energy initiative to generate electricity from ocean waves.

According to Minister Puri, India has taken concrete steps toward producing clean energy from wave power by establishing the nation’s first wave-energy pilot project in Mumbai — a coastal city surrounded by the sea. The project is being carried out by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), India’s state-owned oil and gas company.

Equipment used by India to generate electricity from ocean waves

India’s untapped potential for wave-energy generation is estimated at around 40,000 MW. The South Asian nation has a coastline stretching 11,098 kilometers across nine states and six union territories.

Wave-energy generation is a relatively new method. Under this system, a floating buoy is placed on the water surface, rising and falling with each wave. The mechanical force generated by the buoy’s motion is transmitted to an onshore conversion station via a lever arm. The station then converts this motion into pressure exerted on a fluid system. The fluid pressure drives a turbine, which in turn produces electricity.
