UNICEF supports plastic water tanks for Cao Bang province

The Japanese Government, through UNICEF, has provided 850 plastic water tanks to the two provinces affected by storms and floods, Lang Son and Cao Bang, of which 456 water tanks were allocated to Cao Bang province.

On September 17, in Phi Hai commune, Quang Hoa district, Cao Bang province, within the framework of the project to enhance children’s resilience to natural disasters and climate change risks sponsored by the Japanese Government through the United Nations Children’s Fund, the sponsor presented water tanks to 7 poor districts in Cao Bang province.

Specifically, the sponsor has supported 850 plastic water tanks for Lang Son and Cao Bang provinces worth about 1.8 billion VND, of which 456 tanks are for Cao Bang province to support affected areas, poor communes, and many ethnic minorities; focusing on supporting affected households, households lacking clean water, families with young children, women-headed households, ethnic minority households and distributing to schools and health stations.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, due to the heavy damage caused by storm No. 3 (Yagi), the northern mountainous provinces are suffering a lot of damage and are heavily affected.

 
 

To promptly support people in affected areas, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has connected and worked with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to contribute to supporting people in affected areas to overcome difficulties.

Mr. Maharajan Muthu, Head of Child Survival and Development, UNICEF Viet Nam, said that within the framework of cooperation between the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, UNICEF has provided a lot of support in the development, sustainable new rural construction and natural disaster prevention and control. These include activities such as supporting water tanks for people in the Mekong Delta affected by drought and saltwater intrusion in 2019-2020 or supporting water purifiers for the three provinces of Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu to respond to drought and saltwater intrusion in 2023.

 

In 2024, UNICEF will continue to support through the purchase of plastic water tanks for distribution to areas affected by natural disasters.

Cao Bang is one of the localities that suffered heavy damage caused by the recent storm No. 3. As of September 16, Cao Bang had about 55 deaths, 2 missing people, many areas were landslides, traffic was cut off… With the timely support of UNICEF, it will help people store water for daily use when natural disasters occur./.
