Affirming that the Netherlands is the largest investor and leading trade partner of the EU in Vietnam, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang emphasized that 2024 is of great significance to the relationship between the two countries.

2024 marks the 5th anniversary of the implementation of the Comprehensive Partnership framework (2019-2024), the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (2014-2024) and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management (2010-2025).

Vietnam is one of the countries most severely affected by climate change, typically typhoon Yagi causing floods and landslides has caused huge loss of life and property in many localities of Vietnam.

In the context of increasingly complex climate change, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang asked the Netherlands to continue supporting Vietnam in improving its capacity to respond to climate change, forecast and prevent flash floods and landslides, sustainably manage water resources, develop green and smart agriculture, and transform energy and green transformation.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang also thanked the Netherlands, as one of the three key partners of the P4G Forum, for actively supporting Vietnam in hosting the fourth P4G Summit in 2025, and asked the Netherlands to continue to support and closely coordinate with Vietnam in the preparation and organization of this important conference.

Dutch partners agreed to step up cooperation with Vietnam in the field of climate change, effectively implementing the results of the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Water Management, which took place in the Netherlands in June 2024.

Assistant Secretary of State Steven Collet said that Dutch businesses are currently very interested in the Vietnamese market and have plans to expand their investment and business in Vietnam. He suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation in new areas such as high technology, semiconductor chips, renewable energy, and facilitate the exchange of business delegations between the two countries.

The Dutch Ambassador on Climate Change congratulated Vietnam on assuming the role of Chair of the 4th P4G Summit, thereby affirming Vietnam’s efforts and responsible contributions in solving urgent global issues today.

The Netherlands supports Vietnam’s preparation and organization plan and will closely coordinate with key members and the P4G Secretariat to actively support Vietnam in successfully organizing the conference, contributing to promoting global efforts on green growth, responding to climate change, and implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
